Adventure With Cake Pops!

I made my very first batch of Cake Pops today.

First I made the cake balls.

Then I dipped the sticks in chocolate and put them in the freezer to set quickly.

Then I added the chocolate & other tasty goodness

so...it was a learning experience.
I was going for the look like these. But mine came out lumpy & ugly.
I think I made the actual cake part too big, it kept ripping out the stick from the weight of itself. Annnnnd, I imagined just dipping them in the chocolate to get a round smooth finish...but my chocolate didn't melt like that. So I ended up spooning it on. Hence the lumpiness.
But I am going to do a bit more research and perfect them. I think they will make adorable Halloween treats. And even tho they were ugly...they tasted AWESOME!!!!

They look great for your first time. You can perfect your technique with each batch. Though I had to stop making them because I was EATING them!

Cake pops take time and patience. You can use a scoop to make them all even and round them a bit, then roll them in your hands to make them smooth. Chocolate is tempermental, I find Mercken's to be easiest to use, but only in milk and dark chocolate. Once I use colors, it gets clumpy and hard to work with. You also need to pay attention to how hot it gets. Bakerella just came out with a neat cookbook that offers more tips. Glad to find your site, hope you'll visit mine at http://www.JustaBiteDesserts.com. :)

Yummi!
I've just purchased Bakerella's book and I'm now trying to find all the ingredients to make the cake pops, which is not easy in Portugal...

it doesn't matter how round the cake pops are... just as long as they are good!! but, you might try sticking them in the freezer for a few mins and then rolling the cake balls in your hand to get a more round shape... and you really have to watch the chocolate to not get it too hot so it doesn't burn but not too cool to where it hardens too quickly! just keep stirring it up to keep it smooth. either way they look delicious! :)

i think a chocolate ganache would work better than straight melted chocolate.
